Broken Wings – 1998

In Broken Wings, I aim to capture the true essence of these remarkable children and convey the deep connection I feel with them. This painting is not merely a reflection of their struggles but a celebration of their incredible potential and the profound love and admiration I have for them.

Broken Wings portrays three children in an orphanage, each with a gentle and lovely spirit. These children represent the deep love I developed for the young ones I met during my time in Africa. To me, African children are the heart and soul of this beautiful continent, full of life and potential. My nine-month journey through Eastern Africa is filled with fond memories, and the experiences I had there have left a permanent mark on my heart.

The title Broken Wings might suggest that these children are broken, but it’s meant to be ironic. Despite the challenges they face, these children are not broken at all. They are full of potential, hope, and beauty. Their spirits are angelic, shining brightly even in difficult circumstances. Through this painting, I wanted to honor these children, showing how truly special and resilient they are.

This piece is a tribute to the children of Africa and the powerful impact they had on me. Broken Wings is a reminder that even in tough situations, there is always hope and beauty. The children in this painting are not defined by their circumstances; instead, they are a symbol of strength and grace. They are far from broken—instead, they are whole, full of life and filled with endless possibilities.

In Broken Wings, I hope to capture the essence of these wonderful children and share the deep connection I feel with them. This painting is not just about their struggles, but about their incredible potential and the love and admiration I have for them.
